Dallas Mavericks don’t cut Seth Curry after video of him smoking marijuana goes viral
On Sunday, a video showed a man who looked like Seth Curry smoking marijuana. The video quickly went viral and the account that posted it wrote that the Dallas Mavericks have removed Seth Curry from their roster.
The account wrote, “Seth Curry was reportedly fired from the Dallas Mavericks for drinking “lean” and smoking marijuana in the video.
However, this rumor is not true because the person in the video is not Seth Curry.
Seth Curry signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks last summer and this is his third time back with the Mavericks. Curry joined the Mavericks in 2016 and played with them for two years before making a comeback in the second half of the 2019-20 season.
The experienced sharpshooter made the move to the NBA in 2013 and is now an 11th-year senior looking to help the Dallas Mavericks reach the Finals for the first time since 2011.
Curry recently spoke about his role with the Mavericks and shared his excitement about playing without the ball and playing alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who can create a lot of open shots for him.
“I can shoot and Luka can pass. You have to have two guys with the ball to stop [Luka and Kyrie] from scoring. Both of those guys are very unselfish and that’s one of the reasons you want to stay here [on the free agent market]. As a shooter, as a scorer, you know you’re going to get a lot of open shots,” Curry told reporters in October, via Sports Illustrated.
It’s just going up there and doing your job and being ready when your number’s called and when they find you,” Curry told reporters, via Sports Illustrated, in October. So I want to keep doing what I’m doing, shooting the ball, helping those guys as much as I can, and winning as much as I can.”
So far, Seth Curry has continued to struggle in the Mavericks’ offense. He has appeared in seven games, contributing 2.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game, while shooting just 31.3 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from three-point range.
For the Dallas Mavericks, they are off to a good start and in first place in the Western Conference after defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 136-124 on the road Sunday.
The Mavericks, who are tied for first place with the defending champion Denver Nuggets at 8-2, will look to extend their winning streak to three games in Game 2 against the Pelicans on Tuesday, which will be the NBA in-season championship game.
